U.S. Economic Development Administration Takes Note
 Join us in
celebrating the Creative Economies Initiative recent achievement of being named
a finalist for the 2009 Economic Development Administration's
Excellence in Economic Development Awards by the U.S.
Department of Commerce. The Initiative's
efforts, specifically its Georgia Made Georgia Grown Products programming, is
being recognized and acknowledged for its innovativeness and contribution to
local economic sustainability. Based on the judges scoring and evaluation, the www.GaMadeGaGrownProducts.org site
was one of the top three applicants for this prestigious award. "This
economic development initiative offered us an opportunity to embrace technology
and launch this site in support of Georgia made and Georgia
grown products" said Charlie Gatlin,
deputy commissioner for tourism and marketing for GDEcD and executive director
of the Georgia Tourism Foundation.
"We are encouraged by the positive feedback we have received from creative
business owners, consumers and tourists who are discovering local products and
unique experiences on the site." We encourage all of Georgia's local artists,
entertainers, musicians, farms, theaters, museums, festivals, galleries, unique
restaurants, inns and related creative businesses to register today! The
website is free to artisans and business owners. The Creative Economies
Initiative was announced to the tourism industry by Governor Sonny Perdue in
2007 and led by the Georgia Tourism
Foundation. The site was launched on January 27, 2009 and is
operated by the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
